Trying to get a straight razor shave in while you're in a hurry is not the most pleasant thing in the world. I was super rushed trying to get out of the house and just felt like I was going through the motions rather than focusing on what I was doing. Not a terrible shave, but certainly not all that enjoyable. I'm really thinking I need to go back to shaving late at night again because it's much easier when you're not being rushed and don't have anywhere to be. Here's hoping that tomorrow will offer a better shave!

First off I have to give tons of credit to this B34 for a great lather today and say that I'm so excited to see this thing break in. Brush was phenomenal out of the box and I can say that I enjoyed it much more than my Semogue Owners Club. Honestly just a nice all around brush that could paint or splay with no issues. Hopefully this opinion remains throughout the month.
As for the unscented challenge as soon as I started shaving with this new boar brush I stumbled upon the slightest of regrets. I get to smell the full strength odor of this boar brush for who knows how long with no scent to cover it up. While not really the worst smell I can definitely tell something is there.
Hopefully I've got this razor in a position to make it the full month, but if the shave today is any indicator then I should be fine. Glad I'll get to practice with a straight for a month to try and get a little more proficient.

Brush is still phenomenal so Day 1 was certainly not a fluke. Compared to my SOC which splays quite nicely and my Heritage Dubl Duck that has a taller loft that's great at painting the B34 does both ends of the spectrum very, very well. Such a good brush that's exceeding my expectations for performance at a great price.
Razor didn't let me down for shave #2 and it was actually more comfortable today than it was yesterday. Absolutely smooth as butter with the exception of one spot next to my chin. I guess I didn't get a good enough WTG pass and when I pulled the ATG pass across my jawline it got me a little bit. Certainly no big deal that was barely worse than a weeper.
I feel like this Unscented challenge would be so much worse if I was using a razor I was more comfortable with, but trying to focus on the straight razor technique makes it easy to ignore not having any scent.

Gonna be a long month trying to figure out how many different ways I can explain the same setup. Brush good, razor good, Tusk good and unscented bad! Go Team Go!
Also receiving new items in the mail is the worst during AA and especially at the start of the month. New razors showed up a few minutes ago and all I get to do is look at them for almost an entire month.

Good shave overall with one small exception being that I somehow got myself on my jawline. Didn't even feel the razor bite or anything, but look a few seconds later and it definitely got me me pretty good. Stuff happens, but heck I don't even know how this one happened lol. Guess I've just got a spot now that I've got to avoid for a few days which is certainly always fun.

Another day another shave and it was just mediocre at best. I'm beginning to think this isn't so much the Headless Horsemen challenge, but more the Earless Idiot challenge. This is day 6 and I'm pretty sure I've clipped my right ear at least half of the shaves. Between wearing glasses that are in the way and it being out of my vision and my right hand blocking it I just can't seem to avoid it. Maybe by the end of this month I'll be doing better at that lol.

Another day and another shave. Still just plugging along and thankfully I'm not headless yet! One full week of shaves down and I can say that I'm not completely hating life with this unscented setup. Razor still seems like it's edge is in great shape as it's still passing HHT after stropping so I'm certainly gaining confidence about the initial hone.

Significantly better shave than I've had the last few days. Smooth as butter with no nicks or cuts and still had all my body parts attached when I was done. I do a lot of my shave right handed, but found myself tossing the razor in my left hand for a few passes I don't normally do with it. Glad to see some improvement in the muscle memory coming from this challenge.

Slightly better shave than I've been getting over the last few days. I was doing a WTG pass followed by an ATG pass and then wetting the residual to do some buffing. I've not changed my process at all over the last 2 weeks and I'm starting to find that it's leaving a tiny bit behind especially on my checks. I'm thinking that perhaps I need to add a full pass to those areas to knock it down as the month progresses further. Not BBS, but DFS for sure and it beats almost any shave a DE would give me regardless of the "issues" I'm running into. Good shave overall though!

The shave tonight was definitely a speed run. I was busy outside working on the vehicle from the time I got home around 6pm to almost 11pm and was just ready to sit down after showering. Great shave honestly even though I rushing through it and can definitely tell the technique is getting there to allow such a shave. Hopefully things slow down after today and I can actually enjoy my shaves rather than just feeling like I'm shaving because I have to for AA.

Actually incorporated a third pass this evening for my cheeks and got significantly better results. When the blade was sharper towards the start of the month I could just do WTG and ATG and have a pretty darn good shave. I left my neck alone with the two passes, but added an XTG for my cheeks and found the results to be better than anything I've gotten thus far. These are some of the minor improvements I was hoping to make in the second part of this month and I'm glad to see some results.
Also the more I've been using this brush I'm ALMOST regretting not going with an unbleached knot so that I could feel a little more accomplished with the break-in. I've been waiting a few weeks to toss out this opinion because I wanted to see if it would change, but the Zenith was just too nice out of the box. I think if this challenge comes back next year that I would definitely look towards something else like an Omega or Semogue.

I hate to say I had a bad shave this late in the month after being able to practice for 3 weeks straight, but tonight was just not it. I made it through my 2 passes I'm required to make, but my first pass was just an absolute nightmare. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when I was doing my downward WTG pass on my cheek the razor skipped across my face and caused a pretty good cut. When I was inspecting the edge afterwards there was a pretty good size boar hair on the side of blade. I don't know if it was stuck in my skin from lathering or if it was laying on my face under the lather and I placed the razor right on top of it and it caused it to skip. Just after the last 4-5 days of great shaves I don't feel like that was operator error and it was just some kind of fluke incident.

Alright maybe we're on to something again now that all the problem spots are cleared up. Great shave tonight with no issues at all. I think for these last 5 shaves I'm going to do my best to listen to the feedback the razor is giving me and not push it further than it's capable of at this point. Just keep aiming for comfortable DFS with 2 passes and probably avoid chasing BBS adding in the third pass.

Today actually felt like what I'd expect after using the same setup for 27 days. Smooth as butter and I was honestly questioning if something was wrong with the blade as I was shaving until I took it off my face and checked that hair was being cut. Just felt as smooth as running a butter knife across my face, but just doing work on the hair so certainly can't complain about that. Also I found the bottom of the tub this evening so that's pretty cool.

Routine shave this evening and I feel like that's exactly what it should feel like at this point of the month. Same story as yesterday that the shave was just smooth as butter with no nicks, cuts or irritation. I went for a two pass shave going ATG then XTG and then buffed ATG with residual after wetting my face a bit and it worked out perfect. Let's get these last few days knocked out!
I've got a very strong attraction to rock songs with strong female vocalists. Songs like this are pretty much put on repeat for quite a while until I can find something else to grab my attention. They are just so calming to listen to while sitting around in the evenings after everyone else has gone to bed, I've shaved and I can sit down and game for a bit. I'm going to refer back to my post last night for the love of female vocalists and share another this evening. Back at the end of high school in 2008 when I first started really online gaming a lot and saving videos to YouTube playlists this was one of the first like 5 songs I added to that playlist and is most likely the reason I enjoy what I do now. This was easily one of those songs I could just listen to over and over again. Definitely takes me back to some of the more carefree days of my life. I shaved a good bit earlier today so that I don't have to bother with it later and so that I can officially say one more day and then freedom! Really though it’s been great getting to constantly revisit the same setup to dial it in properly and especially putting in more time with a straight. Definitely offered me a lot of opportunities to learn because sometimes successful shaves are flukes. You have a few good ones in a row and then you get a bad one that offers an opportunity to learn.
Going to post something from a group a bit more common and well known, but perhaps the song not so much. This song brings back memories from our honeymoon back in 2017 when we were at the Hard Rock Cafe in Honolulu and this song came on. I was familiar with the group, but had not heard this song and it just gave off good vibes sitting on the balcony overlooking the stores and such while enjoying ourselves. When I hear 3OH!3 - Hear me now that is instantly where my mind goes. Gotta love relating events in life to some good music.

Headless Horsemen challenge was basically a last minute decision for me because I was pretty set on running a Rolls Razor. I had this razor come in with pretty busted scales and immediately ordered another set only for them to arrive on July 30th which didn't leave me much time to assemble, hone and test shave. I ended up having some issues with the heel of the blade that I chose to completely kill the edge by sanding it down to move the edge up a bit and having to re-hone again with only a day left. Being that I had only been honing maybe 2-3 months at that point I had absolutely zero confidence in this edge making it the whole month and let alone even a week. I really thought I had lost it several times, but just kept it on the strop a little longer and it kept delivering. I'm certainly happy to see an edge I put on the razor make it 31 days and not be completely terrible at the end. I'm also glad I got to practice for a month straight as it gave me time to practice proper mapping, off-hand shaving, etc. and I'm certainly better at the end.

RawHoggin has been a pretty easy going challenge aside from using unscented and catching some whiffs of the brush while shaving. My only complaint with the whole thing is that I wish I had gone unbleached because Zenith knots are just way too good out of the box and I think I would've liked seeing the progress a little more. All that being said the B34 was absolutely amazing and I'm looking forward to getting it's big brother soon!

Unscented challenge started out simple enough and I was fine for 2 going into 3 weeks and then it just started getting to me. I have times where I can't really smell anything that great anyways due to COVID complications last year so it seemed like a no-brainer to tackle this one. This last week has just been absolutely brutal though and maybe it's because I just knew the end was coming up. I'd have to think long and hard about doing this one again in future years.
Sharing this band as a final entry for the sidetracked challenge as they have been one of my favorites the last few months. I don't even remember how I ran into them, but I've been absolutely loving almost every song they've put out. Given their subscriber count and views on YouTube it's certainly hard to expect much, but these guys are flying under the radar with a ton of talent. Enmy - Deceiver
