Welp - Time to enter my first Austere August! And also time to use my first Boar brush (#RawHoggin - u/EldrormR and u/Semaj300) I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong right??
Todays shave wasn't as bad as I was expecting - a bit less scritch than I had anticipated, but then I've also read that Omega and Semogue have somewhat "soft" bristles so perhaps thats why? Either way this was an okay shave, not my best but not my worst.
All in all I'm really looking forward to this challenge!

Day 2 of the RawHoggin challenge and I'm slightly regretting not choosing a lighter scent. Daemon is nice, but in combination with the smell of the Boar Brush it isn't my favourite.
I definitely loaded the Brush heavy today, still need to dial in the water and soap this brush needs.

Today was certainly a better shave than yesterday. I loaded the boar for about 5 seconds and got enough lather for the full shave.
Having come from starting my lather in a bowl then working it on the face, pure face lathering is taking some getting used to - Currently this brush is performing worse than any other in my collection - not sure if its the pure face lathering or the boar but I'm hoping it improves as the month goes on.
I definitely felt the suction affect the Henson gives sometimes, today - I think its just the lather I got as it wasn't all that slick so I'll see how tomorrow goes but I'm hoping it gets better.

Todays shave was remarkably better than yesterdays. I'm still struggling to get a "good" lather with this brush but it's beggining to get to better. I'm quite exhausted from work recently but shaving is quite a nice way to relax really.

Today's lather was significantly better than the others. Still not as good as my old bowl lathering but then I've never pure face lathered before so it's probably to do with that. The brush still has a stank to it so that's always fun. I might switch the blades from SuperStainless to SuperSharps soon to see if that makes any difference to the shave at all.

Well, the soap usage seems to be going down as this brush develops. I was originally thinking I might get close to finishing this tub by the end of the month, but Ii'm down to 3-5 second loads being enough for the full routine. I'm getting better at lathering as well - I don't think I'll stick to pure face lathering after this month but I'm definitely learning more which should help me after.
This brush is beginning to grow on me, but I'm not sure I'd choose it over any other in my collection currently.

Today's shave was remarkably better having switched to the supersharp blades. The brush still stinks though so that's... fun? (I forgot to take a pre-shave photo of just the brush)
End of the weekend and back to work tomorrow so I'm going to have to speed up my lathering a bit which may reduce the quality but I'm sure I'll get it down.
Annoyingly over the last week I've had 2 new razors turn up that I can't even use!

Week 1 is officially over! This brush has already come a long way from when I started and it's getting better every day.
I think I might be mildly allergic to some component of this soap/splash as I get an amount of irritation with the lather on my face occasionally, and almost every day I have a long tingle after applying the splash (longer than other alcohol based splashes). I'm not planning on changing anything as it isn't too bad, but I'm definitely looking forward to using something a bit kinder next month.

Today has been a long day, and has shifted my shave to an evening shave. Relaxing as all hell though, today was an amazing shave, I got a great lather, no issues with the brush or razor just all round great.
Daemon isn't a scent I plan on restocking once this tub is gone, but it also looks like this tub will last a decent chunk of time.

A relaxing weekend shave! The heatwave is back in the UK and it has not been a fun week.
The last 3 shaves have been rather alright, not too much irritation, for whatever reason that wasn't the case today. A little irritation just from the soap, then a load after putting the splash on.

I've been thinking for a while that my soap usage has been super low, but as of today I can see the bottom of the pot through a thin layer of soap in a small area. I'm honestly hoping to have this soap finished or a few uses away from being finished by the end of the month.

Half way through the month! My soap doesn't seem to have gone down any further than yesterday when I broke through to the bottom of the pot.
It's been interesting watching this brush develop across the month so far and I'm looking forward to continuing to see it!

I might have to start rationing soap if I want this tub to last until the end of the month, I've got a penny sized gap and the bottom of the tub which expands every day. I'm hoping I've got enough of a ring around the outside to keep me going through to the end of the month if I smush it down at some point.

Todays shave was pretty good, I've settled on the fact that my lather isn't going to improve too much so I've enjoying shaving a bit more now I'm not thinking I'm doing something wrong (I may well be, but that's for future me to think about)

A decent shave today, cut my lip slightly as I was getting a bit too comfortable and caught it as I went past but nothing major.
I weighed the soap today and I've got about 60 grams left if my rough calculations are correct, so I may have enough to make it to the end of the month, but im also not sure I should ration myself and potentially sacrifice a good shave.
I'll figure it out, only 12 shaves left anyway so unless I can use nearly 6 grams/shave then I should make it to the end (maybe that's a challenge for myself? Use as much Soap as possible)

Todays shave was quite nice, been back at work and in meetings for most of the day so it was nice to have some time to relax. On Saturday we found out my dog has cancer, so this weekend has been a bit hectic and quite emotional.
I've included a photo of him, and his younger (non biological) brother as tax - He is the best boy ever and I refuse to hear otherwise. We've been told that depending on what type of lymphoma he has it could be 6-8 weeks, or potentially a year - So quite different timelines really.

Todays shave was fairly good, nothing major to report although every so often I get a shave with the Henson that feels like it isn't really doing anything. Hensons are mild razors anyway, but normally I can just about feel them working, today I couldn't really feel anything. It's clearly still cut hair - Odd
I've "cleaned" out the soap puck a bit, and made it quite a bit more messy and now regret my decisions.

Aug. 31, 2022 - 31.08.22 - Austere August #RawHoggin The Finale
Well, this has felt like a long month for me. This soap gives a little bit of a burn, and the splash gives a much more noticeable burn so I think im allergic to the fragrance in it, but I stuck through it as it wasn't enough to actually hurt.
The brush has definitely gotten better across the month, and I've really enjoyed pure face lathering. I think I may stick to it going forwards, atleast not when using samples.
Ultimately this month has taught me quite a bit about a brush type I had never used before, and a technique I had hardly touched. I'm really glad I took part though and I've definitely enjoyed the Boar more than I thought I would at the beginning. Within this last week I've been getting better lathers as well so I'm definitely getting better - although it isn't enough to make me give up my synths or badgers I'm afraid.
